VOLUNTEER WITH US!

We’re excited about creating a way of volunteering so that you can make a real difference in the lives of countless people affected by cancer.

What’s unique is you’ll be able to fully draw upon your expertise and passion, connecting and working with like-minded people – taking as much or as little time as you have to offer. What’s more empowering is that you and others in the Healing and Cancer community can generate the ideas for projects which we’ll create together.

Current Needs!

  1. We need a Book Promoter! Someone who can help coordinate the distribution and sales of our book until we find a publisher who can get our books into the hands of people internationally. The 'Book Promoter' would work with a team to identify key people and booksellers in Canada, connect with people who know of the work of the Healing and Cancer Foundation, and interact with our teams arranging events in distant cities and the soon-to-be produced internet TV show. Contact Lauren at volunteer@healingandcancer.org for more information.
  2. We need a Grant Researcher/Writer! The Healing and Cancer Foundation has an immediate need for an individual who can research available grant opportunities and write grant submissions to appropriate funders. We are in various stages of production of a variety of film projects including moving to professional production of an existing 6-DVD documentary on the organization’s Skills for Healing weekend retreats;  a  French/English adaptation of existing video educational materials; and a variety of other fundable projects.  Ideally, you have a track record of writing successful grant applications for not-for-profit organizations.  This is a short term project that could lead to additional volunteer involvement for the right individual.  To apply, please send your resume with cover letter to Lauren at  volunteer@healingandcancer.org.
  3. We need a Budget/Accounting Coordinator! We need a volunteer who can arrange the budget for some of our new projects and finding applications, and help coordinate the finances from our new/projected book sales. We are looking for someone who has experience coordinating budgets for grant applications and basic accounting and finance experience. Please contact Lauren at volunteer@healingandcancer.org for more informations.
  4. Other Volunteer Opportunities:

    Here's how it works.
This webpage will be the starting point and meeting centre for all projects.  You’ll be able to post the ideas you think are worth pursuing, and read about proposed and ongoing projects posted by others.  Each idea will host a chat room where people can comment, interact, exchange suggestions and contact information. Small teams can begin forming until an individual or small group submits a proposal to the Healing and Cancer Foundation Board.  The Board will screen and then post the accepted proposals in the ‘Ongoing projects’ page.  A project leader will be identified for each project and a separate chatroom will be attached to each project. You can visit each of the ‘ongoing projects’ pages looking for opportunities to contribute to the project.

What type of projects are we looking for?

    1. We’re open to any project that will help spread our message of empowerment and healing to both a general audience of people affected by cancer as well as under-serviced communities. For example, we’d like to arrange a cancer weekend retreat for

                a.    the First Nations community or another culture (ethnic, social, etc)
                b.    Other communities within Canada and internationally,
                c.    For specific types of cancer  like thyroid, colo-rectal or lung cancer.

For each of these special weekend retreats we would want to create a 45 minute documentary and  a 6-hour DVD set so that this could be freely shared with people affected by cancer within that group.

    2. We'd like to begin broadcasting public talks to distant cities. Do you know of a group in your community who would like to hear a live presentation via webcast? All we need is a local organizer / team who could arrange for venue and advertise the event.

    3. Other ideas: A second-level retreat program for those who have attended the weekend or for those who want to go deeper in healing at the psychological and spiritual levels. This could be in Nova Scotia or elsewhere. The logistical structure for organizing these events is available on this website. Please contact us

    4. Documentaries of the Skills for Healing program. The medium of video documentary is powerful way to share our message. We need a team to secure funding, identify film teams, and organize weekend retreats. We’d like to create a documentary which follows weekend participants for a longer period of time.

    4. Partnering with other not-for-profit and charitable organizations. Our philosophy is to empower others in their work in the cancer community. What can we do to facilitate the work of others? An example is to co-host a weekend retreat for a specific type of cancer.

    5. There are many practical projects which would serve to get our message out to others. For instance looking for websites or other organizations which would broadcast our documentaries or share our materials. We need people to help with distribution of DVD series to public libraries, or to courier packages to people who have ordered them off the website.

    6. We’d like to find corporate partners who would like to contribute to these different projects. Fundraising for different activities is an essential project. Please contact us with your ideas.
